Thank you to everyone for your wonderfully fabulous ideas for my new website name. There were some fabulous ideas and some creative ladies out there. (I apologize for the over usage of the word fabulous, but my brain is fried and I could not come up with another word.)

I think I am going to go with www.areyouthere-god.com which is a combination of Jennifer and Deborah's fabulous ideas. So, if you two ladies wouldn't mind sending me your mailing addresses, I would appreciate it. =)

I am hoping to make the change over by Friday of this week (hopefully no one steals my URL before then.) And not to worry, you will be shown in the right direction once the change happens so you can update your stalking following stats.

~I finally made it to 50 followers!! Yay! Go me! I thought I would never see this day! Thank you so much to all of you for helping me to reach the mark. I appreciate each and every one of you. And, Tracey, congratulations for being lucky number 50. =)

~Everyone in my house has been sick for about 2 weeks (except for me, I have somehow been spared) and so I am a little behind in some of my blogging posts. I have a couple of reviews and giveaways to do for you and a lot of other blogs that always start out in my head and never make it to the post because I get distracted or because of the fact that I have so many ideas that I would need to post more then 1 a day to keep up with them all. It would *appear* that most everyone is on the mend and hopefully I will be able to do some catching up here soon.  Is it wrong that I almost want to be sick so I can have the excuse to whine, lay around in bed all day and do nothing around the house for 2 weeks? Sometimes it really stinks being the mommy and being stuck taking care of everyone.

~ I'm tired of everyone being sick. I am going stir crazy. We have not really been out of the house for 2 weeks. The kids are driving each other crazy. They kids are driving me crazy. Popeye has been sick too. All of the healing, housework and everything else has fallen on me. I'm tired. I'm worn out. I need a momcation.

~I just came across this new coupon/money saving idea tonight that I am trying out. I am going to give it a few weeks and hopefully if it is successful. Either way, I will share it with you in time.

~Sometimes I do my best thinking in the bathroom. No one is bothering me. There is no TV or radio to distract me. There is not a cell phone to ring from someone needing something. Once in a while, I get a kid pounding on the door, but they have learned by now, to tell the difference when mommy is talking through gritted teeth and when she is not, even though they do not have x-ray vision. Embrace the bathroom time.

~Through the magic of the internet, I have been away from this posting and have come back to it. In between then, I read this blog post by my friend Jane Anne. She reminded me that it is the little moments that we need to cherish and remember. Earlier in this post, I was complaining about everyone being sick and going crazy about being stuck in the house. Jane Anne made me think that maybe I should be cherishing those moments. Cherishing the fact that through the magic of sickness, our family was forced to slow down, to spend some time at home and to just be together. While there have been some whiney, uncomfortable, not fun moments, it kind of has been nice to have an "excuse" to not have to go anywhere or do anything. The Lord has given me the opportunity to be a mother to my children; the kind of mother they will remember. The mother that is by their side when they are sick, holding their hair out of the toilet, snuggling them when the don't feel well, and kissing away the hurts. Thanks Jane Anne. As always, you make me think and you inspire me.

Little Man-nerisms

I thought I would compile a post about some of Little Man's habits and "quirks" so that you could get a glimpse into what life is like in our home.

These are a couple of the latest pictures of Little Man. Notice the hair. Isn't it lovely? Notice the nice long sideburns and the bangs almost into his eyes. He hates haircuts. The clippers are too loud in his ears. I try to use scissors, but he cannot sit still long enough for it to be cut straight and he will flip out if you try to hold his face. And let us not forget the tickle of the hair falling on him.

Little Man went with Popeye to the drag races this Spring. Notice the ear muffs. Little Man loves to help vacuum; again, notice the ear muffs. He does not like loud noises, so one of our solutions has been these very fashionable ear muffs that Popeye found. Public restrooms are a lot of fun too. The poor kid has to either cover his ears while I flush for him or he shrugs his shoulders up to his ears as he flushes because it is too loud for him.

Dinner time is loads of fun. The boy CANNOT sit still or sit in the chair properly. Often, he has to get up to look at something. He has no concept of small bites; everything gets shoved into the mouth, stuffing it as full as he can get it. Little Man just has no concept of what is acceptable at the table even though we have tried teaching him from day one.

Showers are really fun too. Little Man hates getting water in his face. AT ALL. Even just a tiny splash will send him into a minute freak out moment. I do admit that he has been getting better about this one. Last night, Popeye may have even convinced him to let me cut his hair because then he wouldn't have to stand under the spray of the shower as long. He is still deciding which is worse; the haircut or the shower. Such choices.

This is his latest obsession. Paper. Cutting it. Coloring it. Taping it. You name it, if it can be done with paper, he will figure it out. The above pictures are my hamburger that he created for me. The blue paper is the bun, the black is the meat, and the yellow and green are cheese (yes, I know if cheese is green it usually indicates mold, but he said he ran out of yellow and he couldn't use orange because he knows I like mozzarella.)

Little Man has to know what time it is. He can't stand it if he doesn't know what time it is. He is constantly checking the clock to make sure he is aware of the time. Even if he just checked it 1 minute ago. And it has to be the precise time when you tell him what time it is. If you tell him it is 6pm and the clock says it is 5:59, then he will definitely set you straight. I tell him that he cannot come out of his room until 8am (unless I come and get him sooner) and you can bet your bottom dollar that he is in my room at 8am on the dot telling me it is time to get up.

Music calms him. It does not matter what kind of music. He likes all genres. His favorite kind of music always has a really good drum beat to it. While it is calming to him, he has to know the name of the song and what person/band sings the song.

So there you have it. A few small examples to show you how life in the AYTG household works with an Aspie in the midst.

I need your help

I recently won a giveaway from my blogging friend Thena over at Patiently Waiting for 250 business cards from UPrinting.

I'm going to be using these as Mommy cards and I want to include my blog address on them. However, I think that my blog address is not very catchy and is too hard to remember.

When I first started my blog, I had no idea that it was going to become what it has and I really did not think that far ahead about the URL and trying to make one that was catchy and easy to remember.

So.....I need your help. I am trying to come up with a new blog URL. I have checked, and just about every version of Are you there God? It's Me. is already taken. I am at a loss and I need the help of my lovely, faithful readers.

I know I have quite a few readers that are creative and imaginative so I am enlisting in your help.

Help me come up with a catchy, but easy to remember URL that at least somewhat goes with my blog and its title. Please!

AND, if I happen to chose yours, there just might be a small prize involved as a thank you! =)

I hope to have this done by the end of the week.

Family Keepsake Journals Review

I would like to introduce you to Between Me And You and their Family Keepsake Journals. Each journal is a hardcover, spiral-bound book that contains 35-45 fun-to-ask and fun-to-answer questions. The idea is to give the journal to a loved one and they are to answer each of the questions inside and then return it to you, creating a memorable, handwritten, keepsake journal. Or, the opposite can happen; you could answer all of the questions inside and give it to someone (a spouse or child) that they can have as a keepsake remembrance of you.

A great feature of the Between You And Me series, thanks to the spiral-bound presentation, is that you can simply tear out the pages that might not be relevant to your particular needs. You can even add your own personal questions or even photos on the blank pages that are provided in back.

Inside each journal are questions like~
  • What are your memories of the day I was born?
  • Before we met, what did you think your future mate would be like?
  • What characteristics do you think we share?
  • Is there anything I might be surprised to learn about your childhood?
  • If you could relive one moment from our past, what would it be?

These journal make a wonderfully unique and personal gift that will leave a lasting impression for generations to come. There is no other journal out there like it. The presentation is simple, contemporary and non-mushy. Each book is divided into 6 chapters, each concerning a different phase of life or relationship. Asked in a comfortable, conversational tone and many times with a sense of humor, the questions are specific enough to elicit some wonderful personal information yet general enough so that anyone will find them relevant to his or her own relationship.

As a thank you, Between Me And You is offering AYTG readers a special coupon code good for $1.00 off each journal you order. All you have to do is place the special coupon code in the comments section of the online order form when you place your order.

Weekend Wisdom and Worship

I recently received this in an e-mail. I often do not forward e-mails or pay much attention to them, but this one spoke to me and I thought it had a great message. I hope it speaks to you as well. Happy Sunday!

The 7 Ups

1. Wake Up !!
Decide to have a good day.
This is the day the Lord hath made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

~Psalms 118:24~

2. Dress Up !!
The best way to dress up is to put on a smile.
A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.
Man looks at outward appearance,

But the Lord looks at the heart.
~I Samuel 16:7~

3. Shut Up!!
Say nice things and learn to listen.
God gave us two ears and one mouth,
So He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking.
He who guards his lips guards his soul.
~Proverbs 13:3~

4. Stand Up!!
. . . For what you believe in.
Stand for something or you will fall for anything.
Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time,
We will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good...
~Galatians 6:9-10~

5. Look Up !!
. . To the Lord.
I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.
~Philippians 4:13~

6. Reach Up !!
. . For something higher.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not unto your own understanding.
In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.
~Proverbs 3:5-6~

7. Lift Up !!
. . Your Prayers.
Do not worry about anything; instead
PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING.
~Philippians 4:6~

A POSITIVE THOUGHT

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring, and a sunrise every morning.

Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen.
He could live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart.
What about the Christmas gift He sent you in
Bethlehem ;
Not to mention that Friday at
Calvary .

Face it, He's crazy about you.

Are you a Scary Mommy?

One of the blogs I stalk my blogging friends, Jill, over at Scary Mommy is doing a search to try and find the Scariest Mommy out there in honor of the new movie coming out called Motherhood.

What is a Scary Mommy you ask?
Well Jill describes it as, "I believe a Scary Mommy is a mother who doesn’t leave the house wearing lipstick at all times. A Scary Mommy loves her kids to death, but will admit to feeling totally overwhelmed and exhausted by the gig. A Scary Mommy doesn’t really care what other people think, and a Scary Mommy thinks that all mothers win when we admit our weaknesses."
But Jill wants to know what my definition of a Scary Mommy is.

So.......here it goes.......

  • When Little Man was about 5 months old, we had gone to the mall as a family. The mall was closing and as we were leaving, we noticed that it was pouring down rain outside, so Popeye said he would drive our vehicle up to the door so that Little Man wouldn't get too wet. So, after Popeye parked the car next to the curb, I proceeded to walk down the curb and put Little Man into his car seat. Well, apparently, wearing thick soled sandals in the rain while trying to go down the curb is not a good idea. My foot went one way and my ankle went the other. I, of course, being the protective mother scary mommy that I am, opted to save myself instead of my baby. Little Man went flying through the and landed face down (yes, face down) onto the pavement as I tried to catch myself. As my baby is screaming bloody murder, face down on the pavement, I'm sitting their bawling because I've dropped my baby (do you think I would actually go and check to see if he was okay?) So Popeye proceeds to pick the baby up and he had blood streaming down his face (still screaming) and put him in the stroller. Then he helped me into the car and then handed Little Man to me to hold and comfort. We then proceeded to the emergency room (no, we did not strap the baby in his car seat, I just held him while driving in the car) as the baby continued screaming. After a 2.5 hour wait in the ER (apparently a crying baby with blood running down its face is not a priority) the baby was finally taken back to be checked out, while I waited in the waiting room because I had to be checked out as well, only separately. I ended up with a sprained ankle and on crutches for a couple of weeks while Little Man just had a couple of scratches and bruises (I guess babies are made of rubber and pretty much bounce if you drop them on the pavement.) Moral of the story~ Do not wear thick soled sandals and step off a curb in rainy weather.

  • Picture this~ You are enjoying a lovely afternoon at the park with your husband, toddler and infant. The infant is in the stroller while the toddler is nicely running away walking along with you. You hear some music playing on the stage that you are standing behind and decide you will go and listen for a bit. Before going over there, your husband goes to throw the lunch garbage in the trash can, about 5 feet away. The toddler follows and you yell tell your husband to let him know that toddler is following. You bend over infant and the stroller to cover her back up a little bit (turning your back to husband and toddler.) You finish and look up to see husband walking casually back towards you with no toddler. Apparently the husband did not hear you. You start looking around and toddler is nowhere to be seen. Panic mode sets in. Husband tells you not to move in case toddler comes back and starts quickly walking around looking for toddler. Husband thankfully knows toddler very well and goes around the stage to find toddler standing there listening to the music. Total panic time was an eternity only about a minute.
  • It is a lovely evening on your daughter's 3rd birthday and she has chosen a nice little restaurant to go to eat for her birthday dinner.  Everyone's drinks arrive and the family orders their dinner. The cute little 3 year old is coloring nicely in her booster seat, which has been placed on the restaurant chair and doesn't scoot all the way completely up to the table. Daughter drops one of her crayons on the ground and instead of asking for someone to help her, she decides she is just going to lean over and get the crayon herself. Well, seeing that the she is in a booster seat placed on a chair, it is not very stable and she starts to topple over. Scary Mommy tries to grab, but apparently is not quick enough and daughter ends up splat on the tile floor. Daughter ends up with a concussion on her 3rd birthday. Happy birthday dear! You can read the entire story here.

Those are my 3 major crimes best moments as a Scary Mommy. There are of course many more, punishable sympathetic however you see fit~
  1. The kids watch TV; lots of TV; more TV then I like to admit.
  2. We often eat breakfast for dinner because it is easy to cook.
  3. We often do not get out of bed until 8:30.
  4. We spend many days in our pajamas.
  5. I have let my kids have sips of my coffee.
  6. The kids' rooms only get cleaned about once a month (and that's being generous.)
  7. I homeschool *gasp*
  8. The kids are sometimes digging clean clothes out of the laundry baskets to wear.
  9. I have left the kids to spend the night at my moms' house for 3-4 nights more then once.
  10. I save dessert to eat after the kids go to bed so I don't have to share.
  11. I occasionally yell at my kids.
  12. I have been known to sit in front of the computer all day while the kids run wild watch movies.
  13. I let them go out in public in mismatched outfits that they have chosen themselves.
  14. My daughter often does not have her hair combed for a day or two because I don't want to deal with the battle.
  15. I have been known to give cheese, grapes and goldfish for lunch.
There you have it. My worst best Scary Mommy moments.

I am sure I have many more Scary Mommy moments, but these are just the few that I could come up with for now. Plus, I didn't want to bore all of you with my fabulous, mundane moments.

If I am chosen as the winner, I will not only be featured on Jill's blog, I will also be featured on Eliza's blog. AND, I will also win a Flip Video Camera!!!

Now, if you would like to help me win, then please, please leave comments here to vouch for me as the Scariest Mommy. Jill will be taking the comments section into consideration when making her decision. So please campaign for me and leave me a comment!

Update on Little Man

Okay, I do apologize for keeping you all in the dark. Things have been crazy around this house. Everyone, except me, has been sick in some form for the last 1.5 weeks. So, some things have kind of been put on the back burner.
So, without further ado, here is my update that has taken me a few days to write.

My son was given a PDD-NOS diagnosis.

According to the DSM-IV~
The essential features of PDD-NOS are severe and pervasive impairment in the development of reciprocal social interaction or verbal and nonverbal communication skills; and stereotyped behaviors, interests, and activities. The criteria for Autistic Disorder are not met because of late age onset; atypical and/or sub- threshold symptomotology are present. (Page 77-78)

This category should be used when there is a severe and pervasive impairment in the development of reciprocal social interaction or verbal and nonverbal communication skills, or when stereotyped behavior, interests, and activities are present, but the criteria are not met for a specific Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizotypical Personality Disorder, or Avoidant Personality Disorder. For example, this category includes "atypical autism"-- presentations that do not meet the criteria for Autistic Disorder because of late age of onset, atypical symptomatology, or sub-threshold symptomatology, or all of these.

I don't really think that I am satisfied or at peace with this diagnosis. It seemed to me that the doctor was reluctant to give Little Man an Aspergers diagnosis because he is still so young and she just threw him into the PDD "umbrella" category because he obviously isn’t “normal”and shows some disabilities. I feel like further evaluation should have been given.

I also questioned her on whether it made a difference that she was an adult during the evaluation and she didn’t get to do any observation on him with peers. She claimed that any social disabilities that he has would be prominent no matter what the situation. I, however, do not agree. I have seen my son interact with adults with a slight disability, yet when it comes to his peers, that is where is social disabilities lay. In fact, I have read, that many children with Aspergers are considered to be "little professors" because of their language skills and their ability to interact so well with adults, yet they cannot relate well with their peers because they are unable to pick up on social cues.

It also felt like she was using homeschooling as an excuse. Saying that he may act differently were he in public school or a more structured environment. She knows he goes to church every week, Awana every week and MOPS every week. He has previously been in a preschool. It's not like he has not had any child interaction or he just lives at home in a bubble and he never goes anywhere.

It is frustrating because I am pretty sure that he has Aspergers but because he didn't meet every single stinking criteria and because of his age, she wouldn't give him a diagnosis of Aspergers.

I don't have the full report yet, because she said she is going to mail it to me. But there were things that she pointed out to me on the evaluation questions and many of her observations that makes it even more confusing and why I do not understand why she did not diagnose him with Aspergers and gave him the PDD-NOS diagnosis instead.

She suggested social skills therapy group and "maybe" occupational therapy. But other then that, she didn't offer a lot of help for us/him. She said she would have a list of resources and books with the report she sends me, but she did not even offer her own counseling services to us. So she gave me this diagnosis and really nothing to move forward with. I left with the feeling that I had no idea where to go from this point and how we help him change and learn.

I have found out that there is an autism center in our area so I think we will be asking for an appointment with them and hopefully getting a second opinion.

Of course we will continue to pray about it and seek the Lord's guidance, but at the moment, I do not feel as if there is closure or as if I have gotten anywhere. I suppose in a way, that we at least have some sort of diagnosis, but without a proper diagnosis, we are not able to get the therapy and help that Little Man needs.

It is frustrating and a difficult situation for us to be in. I know that somewhere in all of this, God has a plan for Little Man and all of us, but I have yet to know what it is. I am trying to trust in Him, but it is so hard.

Yoplait Yogurt Review & Giveaway

Are you searching for a snack for the kids that tastes good and is good for them? Yoplait Kids yogurt is the perfect solution with 25% less sugar than the leading kids’ yogurt. With its thick and creamy texture that will hug your little one’s spoon, you won’t have to worry about a sticky mess to clean up afterwards. It also contains no artificial sweeteners or flavors, so you can feel good about serving it to your kids.

In addition, Yoplait Kids is a good source of vitamin D and, according to two new studies that provide the first national assessment of the crucial nutrient in young Americans, millions of U.S. children have disturbingly low vitamin D levels, possibly increasing their risk for a variety of health concerns, including bone problems. About 7.6 million children, adolescents, and young adults have vitamin D levels so low they could be considered deficient. It can be challenging for growing kids to get enough vitamin D because this nutrient is only found naturally in very few foods; however Yoplait Kids makes it a little easier to incorporate a delicious source of vitamin D and calcium in your child’s diet.

I was recently given the opportunity by MyBlogSpark to review Yoplait Yorgurt Less Sugar for kids.

In order to do a proper review. I was mailed a coupon for any of the Yoplait Kids yogurt products along with a Yoplait Less Sugar, More Fun prize pack. Little Man and Tomboy really loved the idea that the yogurt came in Diego cups (one of their favorite characters.)

Little Man wasn't too much into them, but in his defense, he is not really much of a yogurt eater. Tomboy loves yogurt and she loved these. Not only did they have her favorite character, but they came in two flavors that she really enjoys.

I loved that they were smaller sized servings and easily packed into a lunchbox. And the fact that they come with 25% less sugar then the other average kids' yogurt brands is an even bigger bonus.

I would certainly look at purchasing this on my own in the future as long as I could get it with a good sale and maybe some coupons. Otherwise, I think I will stick with the generic brands that I usually get for the kids.

Now, on to the fun stuff!

Two (yes two!) AYTG readers are going to get the opportunity to win one of the Yoplait Less Sugar, More Fun prize packs!

Weekend Wisdom and Worship

I got the opportunity to go to a women's brunch yesterday at our church. The women's ministry leaders try to do at least one of these every quarter for the women in our church.

As always, I had a great time. I was filled up with God's love and with fellowship. The speaker gave us a little taste of what the winter/spring bible study has in store for us. I am excited by the content, but I am not really sure about it all together. The study is by Kay Arthur and being a newer believer, it is sometimes overwhelming to do one of her studies.

For the closing of the brunch, we were left with a song and a video. The song was I Am from Nicole Nordeman and the slide show had been put together by one of the ministry leads. I haven't heard this song before (although I love Nicole) and it was a beautiful song. I was left with tears in my eyes and felt truly filled with an understanding of my Father's love.

While I couldn't get the slide show that I saw at the brunch, I searched for the song and for a similar, wonderfully done slide show. Here is what I found. I hope you are as touched and moved as I was.

Tasty Tuesday~ Zucchini Cranberry Muffins

I have a large abundance of zucchini from my garden so I am looking for some recipes to make to use it up. I found these over at Real Mom Kitchen so I thought I would give them a try. I did make a few changes in order to try to make it healthier; I want to try and use these for a breakfast muffin~
  • 3 Splenda packets instead of sugar
  • olive oil instead of canola oil (that is what I had)
  • I used KAF Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla
  • I also added Hi-Maize High Fiber Flour and Wheat Germ to try and give it some more healthy components. I added them to make the full 3/4 Cup/each of flour.
  • I added the full 3/4 Cup of cranberries
  • I made them into muffins instead of bread

The Results~

These turned out delicious! They are perfect with a cup of coffee. I will be making them again and probably making a double batch so that I can freeze them for a quick breakfast.

Tasty Tuesday~ Baked Tortilla Chips

These are before they are cooked. I forgot to take an after picture.

~I just cut the tortillas into triangles (however big you want them) then sprayed with oil.
Sprinkled Seasoned Salt (But you can use whatever seasoning you want; I was thinking of trying cinnamon/sugar too).

~Bake at 350*

~I did 10 mins on one side, flipped and 10 mins on the other side.

~Keep checking them though for the first batch; it depends how crispy you want them and how your oven is. They also crisp up a little bit more after they cool.

EVERYONE in the house loved these and they did not last very long at all. We ate them both plain and with some guacamole. Definitely a very healthy, easy and fun snack to have in the house.
